The City Beautification Committee (CBC), a volunteer organization of the City of Frankenmuth, guides aesthetic enhancements within the City of Frankenmuth. The CBC is guided by its mission: "Using the community's human, natural and financial resources, rewarding the community and its visitors through positive year-round efforts."
In 2007, the City of Frankenmuth was recognized as a Community Champion by America In Bloom (AIB). The Frankenmuth America In Bloom initiative is a joint project of the City Beautification Committee, the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce and the Frankenmuth Downtown Development Authority. A Steering Committee of members of each group coordinated 2007 AIB local events including events associated with the personal visit of AIB judges Bill Hahn and Ed Rhinehart.
The city competed in eight areas including Tidiness Effort, Community Involvement, Urban Forestry, Landscaped Areas, Floral Display, Turf and Ground Covers, scoring a total of 870 points out of a possible 1000. Overall, the city received a "Bloom Rating of 5," and designation as first in its category as an America In Bloom Champion. Highest marks were given to the high level of community involvement from the many, many social groups that have made Frankenmuth successful with its volunteerism.
The city also received a Special Mention award for its floral displays. In their evaluation, Judges Hahn and Rhinehart wrote, "If time stood still, Frankenmuth would always be the 'A' standard for floral display. To answer the question, Where have all the honey bees gone? Perhaps they've heard the buzz and gone to Frankenmuth."
The judges also make mention of the outstanding success of the City Beautification Committee fund-raising and its amazing 55-year history. They commended the city for its commitment to hire a professional horticulturist to take due care with the flowers, urban forest and turf areas as well as the beautiful and many hanging baskets. The judges describe the city as "choreographed street lawns with more color than a kaleidoscope," and also commended the supportive commercial sector including Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance, Zehnders Restaurant and the Bavarian Inn, which "rolls out the floral carpet where the municipal plantings end."
Finally, the judges commented on the success of heritage conservation in Frankenmuth. "This community has taken the heritage bull by the horns... a symbol of strength, have symbolically made their heritage the strength of the community."
