The Frankenmuth Police Department provides bicycle patrol to all of its neighborhoods and business districts. The inherent value of the Bicycle Patrol is that it provides high visibility, accessibility, and increased mobility. The Bicycle Patrol has provided the officers with the perfect vehicle for problem solving policing by allowing interaction with the general public on a daily basis.
Patrolling by bicycle also allows officers to provide faster response times and increase officer visibility at all of our City's major events. The Bicycle Patrol Unit is a valuable resource, allowing access to areas not previously accessible by the conventional police cruiser.
To be qualified for the bike team, an officer must attend an intensive training course. During this training the officer is taught advanced riding skills, defensive and offensive riding strategies and general bike maintenance.
The officers of The Frankenmuth Police Department would like to remind all cyclists to ride safely at all times and recommends the use of a helmet on all rides. Lights at night are a must in Michigan, and bicyclists must adhere to the same motor vehicle code as a passenger vehicle while on the roadway.
