Honesty, Integrity, and Accountability
Thank you for showing an interest in one of Michigan's leading law enforcement agencies with the best Reserve Unit in the state. The most important thing we can do for our community is to hire the "best of the best.” We are actively pursuing committed individuals who are not only willing to become members of the FPD family, but also members interested in the welfare of our community. Please take the time to navigate through our website and familiarize yourself with our organization.
The selection process for Police Reserve Officer with the Frankenmuth Police Department is highly competitive and can be time consuming to some individuals. The process is designed to assist us in the crucial task of selecting candidates who are going to perform to the high standards demanded by our community. To aid you in our process we highly recommend that you:
1) Complete your application thoroughly.
An illegible application or one with errors or frequent omissions will not be considered. It is important that your application reflects the work ethic that you will bring to the Frankenmuth Police Department if selected for the position. These applicants are not likely to move forward in the process.
2) Be on time for your appointments.
Tardiness is not tolerated from an applicant who wishes to be considered for appointment to this position. If for some unforeseeable circumstance you are going to be delayed or unable to make your appointment for testing, you are expected to notify the recruiting staff as soon as possible to make the appropriate notification and arrangements. Inability to attend an interview or meeting may delay your processing or disqualify you from our process.
3) Dress appropriately.
Remember that you are competing with others for a position. We are looking for professionals. Look the part.
4) Be driven, and committed to the process
Recruiting staff will conduct many hours of screening and getting to know the applicant as best we can. Becoming a Police Reserve Officer with our department is a very demanding process, requiring the full attention of the applicant through all phases of the process.
Because our process is so demanding on the department personnel, we recruit, hire and train just once per year. Our recruiting process begins by accepting applications at the beginning of each calendar year through September. In August we further our recruiting process by partnering with local universities and civic groups, gathering applications. The actual interview and screening process begins in September of each year and is comprised of the following phases, (each "Pass/Fail"):
-
Submit a completed application with Affidavit of Standards form
-
Attend and pass a screening interview
-
Pass a thorough background investigation
-
Complete a ride along evaluation phase
-
Pass a formal oral board interview
A conditional offer is extended to successful applicants at the end of November to enter our Reserve Academy, which starts in December and ends with graduation approximately 6 months later in May.
The process repeats itself each year as needed to fill our ranks.
