SVSU RECRUITING INFORMATION - FALL 2009

Thank you for visiting this informational page. We hope this information helps you through our recruiting process. Hopefully this "one stop" page will answer all of your questions about our process and its' timeline of events.

We are beginning our recruiting season next month for our reserve unit. There will be 12 to 15 sent through our academy which starts November 27, 2010.

You must be a resident of Saginaw county or its immediate surrounding counties, 21 years of age, and have a clean criminal/traffic history. If selected you will undergo just under 200 hours of instruction on PPCT (certification), firearms (MCOLES), pepper spray, patrol tactics, MI law, report writing, crowd control, basic first aid/AED, TASER (certification), LEIN (certification), and familiarization with our department procedures.

Our reserve officers perform the same duties as a certified officer and fall under the same general orders. All equipment is supplied except the department firearm, which the recruit will need to purchase for the academy. A pair of footwear will also be required at the expense of the recruit.

We will be visiting both SVSU in hopes of finding our next group of men and women to enter into our academy in November 2010.
