What would happen if a dirty bomb exploded in Mid-Michigan? Who would respond? Where would we go? Would we be prepared?
Local police officers, sheriff's deputies, state troopers, EMS, and fire fighters from Saginaw County and surrounding areas participated in a major disaster drill in which a "dirty bomb" exploded at a local concert. Emergency workers coordinated on local, state, and federal levels to prepare for disaster. New technologies were used and tested for the first time. Responders tested brand new medical tracking equipment called Medtracks. It's a first that is being used in Saginaw County. Medical personnel tag a victim and then scan them with a special computer. Hospitals are able to prepare for incoming wounded.
The drill tested the patience and training of our police and medical emergency staff. All those that participated said they are now better prepared both mentally and physically.
